Okay, fine, real answer! So to actually answer this question I need to lore dump at you and I'm very sorry.

Last time Ardyn saw Somnus alive, Somnus had just killed Ardyn's fiancee, had turned Ardyn's flock against him and had just ran Ardyn through the chest with a sword. Then the rest of the House Caelum military also attacked Ardyn... They were unable to kill him, of course, since Ardyn has the Starscourge due to TANGENTIALLY RELATED LORE DUMP HERE (I'll spare you).

Ardyn was then suspended from the roof of a cave by chains anchored into the sword points and spear heads still lodged in his body for two thousand years and in that time he kept thinking about Somnus and where everything had gone wrong. Over the centuries he sort of lost his mind and was filled with so much hate that by the time he was freed his main motivating thoughts were along the line of "Kill me, kill my brother's legacy, kill the Crystal that chose my brother instead of me, kill the Gods whose will the Crystal conveys and maybe also kill the world because it does nothing but cause suffering and everyone you know will end up hurting you."

Pretty much everything he does in the game he does in an attempt to get revenge against Somnus and, in doing so, maybe finally clear this darkness from his heart and find redemption.... It's complicated.

It eventually got so bad the war god decided to further provoke Ardyn's hatred and pain to get him to spread his darkness so that one day the game's hero could arise, strike Ardyn down, and cleanse the Starscourge from the world completely. Prophecies!("But why was it important Ardyn made things worse before Noctis could make them better?" I hear nobody ask. Bahamut's a dick. That's pretty much why.)

Anyway I mention all of that to show that Ardyn's feelings on Somnus are pretty much all deeply ingrained into him. He's had thousands of years to stew in this hatred. Two weeks in Beacon won't change that! ...If anything it's made his hatred worse. He knows Somnus was here and that at least one person glimpsed Somnus's memories so he feels like his little brother still haunts him even in another dimension. Even after death. And Somnus had the audacity to disappear before Ardyn could even confront him! Why do the gods deny him his revenge, man!?

ooooh ardyn should probably never find out that sora met somnus and has an alternate version of what happened during That One Fight floating around in his head huh

Meanwhile! Ardyn should probably actually maybe never tell Ephrim any of this because Ephrim WILL just fucking go batshit! "also kill the world because it does nothing but cause suffering" WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE, ARDYN IZUNIA, SAMOT?

Ardyn doesn't go around telling ANYONE what he really wants so Ephrim is in the clear. But seriously, Eph, he tried to save the world once it screwed him over so really everything should just die and leave him alone. If he could die he'd be left alone. Man, that'd be awesome.



I'm bummed our Somnus left before I could play with those different timelines though. So much potential there! They were great, I played with them on the TDM a bit.

Okay but can Ephrim kill the same god in two different dimensions? 'Cause for Ardyn that's what it will take!

depends on how you get to the dimensions, and like, maybe timing? do they both have to eat it at the same time? ephrim has done a few weird af things, time-space traveling included, but you never know if you don't try, right?

They do not have to die at the same time but the way to kill Ardyn is convoluted and involves, among other things, a pilgrimage to reclaim ancestral weapons and power, a ring that kills most people who try to use it, a magic crystal, sacrifice, meditation, a war dragon...and the person killing Ardyn has to be royalty too.

Basically the entire plot of FFXV.

What is Ardyn's relationships/thoughts towards the spirits?

He hasn't really formed a hard opinion on them yet. For now he finds them annoying but he wants to communicate with them because they might know things he doesn't.

Them being monstrous in appearance sometimes doesn't bother him but he's basically the ur-father of modern daemons in his world so he's used to being around monsters.
