dadandgone: (I Don't Get It)

'preciate it.

[Maes bobs his head in agreement. He hadn't quite figured out where everything was around here and so it was helpful when someone provided information like that. He would offer to help, he'd just realized that the giant of a man was wearing a sling, but when you're drunk and processing so many thoughts and memories it was probably for the best that he stayed seated for the time being. He groaned and rubbed at his head, muttering.]

What am I doing?

[He looks back up from the table when the man returns with new drinks.]

I learned a long time ago, with another friend, that drinking alone is a terrible idea. I'm glad I could get some company. It's been awhile since I've had drinks like this though. Not exactly the kind of thing you do when you become a dad.

[With Gracia and Elysia in his life he hadn't really needed it, not like he had during the war. Instead of drowning himself in a bottle, he had buried himself in the arms of his wife and then later his daughter. Arriving here was the severing of that connection and alcohol had seemed like a pale substitute, but he'd helped himself anyway. More of a distraction than a replacement, now that he considered it at all.]
